Charles & Carrie Visit - October 2001

CHARLES & CARRIE VISIT: A wedding in Franklin, IN was the real reason for Charles and Carrie coming BACK HOME IN INDIANA, but that was fine by me. They arrived 10-3 and we made Jane come home for an early Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday. Before dinner, I took Charles and Carrie out to visit Grandpa and Kathy and to see their new home. It seems just about everyone in our family has moved this past year. Janet put on a wonderful spread of traditional home-made Thanksgiving fare, (turkey, stuffing, cheese potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, tossed salad, cresent rolls -- yum!!) that we all enjoyed very much. We took a few group photos since this occasion of having our family together was so special and getting rare. Then Jane had to immediately return to school for her planned trip out east to Virginia to visit her old room mate, Kate the following morning. Carrie had to go to work on that wedding in Franklin, being the Maid of Honor and all, but we are planning to see everyone again at a little brunch on Sunday before Charles and Carrie have to fly back home.

We had a very nice morning for the family brunch. Tina (Carrie's mom) and youngest sister, Katie, drove over from Columbus, OH to see Carrie and Charles. My sisters and their families made it as well. Our entertainment for the morning was Carrie playing Chopin on our piano. She gave a terrific performance that was really fun to watch and listen to. Very talented girl I'd say. I guess the only problem as we discovered later was my father had it in his mind that we were getting together at 3pm and not 10am. We couldn't get a hold of him in time, so he missed it which was too bad. We were all thinking of many worse senarios than just not having the right time, so when we talked to him later in the afternoon, we were sorry, but relieved at the same time. Of course we had Charles and Carrie back at the airport by 1:30 pm in order to make their flight at 3pm. This was also the day, Oct 7th, that our country started attacking the Taliban and el Qaida in Afghanistan so airport security was extremely tight.

Here are some movie snippets of some dining table action (Tina, was that nice?) and the piano recital. And just in case you were wondering, no, I did not dub a concert recording over these mpegs of Carrie's playing. The music you hear is the real deal. Not bad....not bad at all.

I think life is going to start settling down and I do not anticipate any more entries for awhile. My father and Kathy head back to Florida next weekend and not much else is planned. We've had an extremely busy schedule this past month. And I, for one, am looking forward to a little quieter time with less commitments. Assuming the weather holds, it will be time to start mowing the north field to get it ready for winter. That usually takes me a good two days on the tractor as long as I don't have any mechanical problems.
