England/Italy 2010

Wednesday; September 15, 2010 - October 5, 2010: WOW! What a trip. It started out on a canal boat and ended with fireworks.

But first, here are some pics that Arthur took in York, before the rest of us got to England.

We arrived in Worcester (pronounced "Woosta" as best I could tell), England to pick up our narrow boat which we shared with Arthur and Sharon for a week traveling the canals and working the locks on the Stourport Ring. We even showed up in Birmingham when the Pope paid a visit, but opted for a visit to Cadbury World. One must have their priorities. A week at 2 1/2 miles per hour -- wonderful! Tying up at Pubs for a Pint and Carvery Lunch -- even more wonderful! Enjoying a week of good weather passing idyllic scenery -- it was pure heaven. I wouldn't be intimidated to pay the 45 Pound Insurance if we ever get the opportunity to do it again.

John picked us up at the marina after we had turned the boat back in unscathed and we were immediately slammed into 6th gear going 100 miles an hour for several days of attending Arthur's boyhood school haunts and reunions, at both the former Penryn and Beaumont facilities. Throw in a number of John/Celia tag-team (the hosts with the most) parties and dinners and our heads were literally spinning from all the wine and such. It was non-stop party overload. Sharon was most appreciative they had gone to all that effort just to help her and Arthur celebrate their tenth year wedding anniversary.

Finally, John wisked us to Gatwick for a short flight to Italy where we met up with and stayed at the home of Bill and Marcia (Arthur's sister) for a wonderful week of visiting the Lake Garda and Northern Italy area. I even got to play two very special rounds of golf with Bill, Paulo and Arthur at two different courses - - Ca' Degli Ulivi and the fairly new Chervo Golf San Vigilio Pozzolengo Resort. Arthur went to Mantua with with ladies in lieu of the second round of golf -- his loss. On our only rain day which was Saturday, Arthur and I drove to Balzono to see the Otzi man (world's oldest mummy). Janet and I took the train to Venice on Sunday for the day, which brought back many fond memories. Bill and Marcia organized a wine festival complete with fireworks on Lake Garda for our last day in Italy. Are they the greatest or what?

Then it was back to England where Janet had secured a flat for another 10 days from a good friend of Arthur's, while the rest of us had to get back home. Don't expect to see any pictures from Janet, though. She had bought a cheap camera and guess what...it didn't work.
