Neighbor Wedding & German Exchange Student Parents' Visit

Had a big weekend with a lot happening. I think I'll do it in reverse order so as to keep the most current near the top.

SUNDAY: We were so very happy to be able to have a short visit from Volker and Anita, parents of Judy and Zena, from Germany. This was our first opportunity to meet Anita ... Volker had first visited a few years ago. His work brings him to Cincinnati several times a year and on this trip he brought Anita along for an extended stay in the States and a visit to her sister in Atlanta. They drove up from Cincinnati around 10 am to our house. Janet made a nice brunch and we were able to catch up on what was happening in our separate lives. I'm ashamed to say that Janet and I don't speak German, but since both Volker and Anita speak Engish fluently, it was no problem. Volker said he was taking up golf so I had him hit a few in the side yard. I guess in Germany you actually have to be pretty good (You have to go through some pre-qualifications) before you can even play on their courses over there, but from the looks of his swing, I don't think he'll have any problems. The weather cooperated beautifully, so we decided to take them to opening day at the Indianapolis 500 to see a few cars practice. Anita said she had never seen a car race, so I hope she enjoyed it. I think the afternoon got up to around 87oF, so after the track we headed downtown for some refreshments at Circle Center Mall. We showed them a few of the sites around the center of the city, including the Athaeneum (Original City German Club), before heading back to our house and good-byes. I hope a trip to Germany to see them both again will not be too far in the future.

I'll warn you that the first two movie clips are very large (higher quality and bigger picture size) files, so unless you have a broadband connection that you can save them to you own computer, I'd suggest not trying to load them.

SATURDAY: We went to our neighbor's (Robin and Debby) daughter Stacy's wedding at high noon! Inside joke. It happened to be at the Methodist Church at 10th and Olney in our old neighborhood. They had a great day for the wedding. Stacy and Gary did a great job of organizing the ceremony. I particularly liked the way they both came back after the wedding to personally dismiss the guests from the sanctuary. They had a powerpoint slide show of the two of them running showing pictures from both their childhoods as well as some more recent trips and adventures. So this gave the guests something to watch while everyone left. Very thoughtful. A nice reception followed at the Atrium down south. Then is was back to cutting more grass. Seems like I've already been doing a lot of that this Spring.
